Lost Leader of the Write.

William Safire, R.I.P.

In honor of the departed and a loyal opposition, I lead with the write source and then what's left. He will be missed more than words can say. More than some can catch up on. Nonetheless it was about the culture of words.

Leaks Strike Again.

The latest in plumbers unit?

Or is it? Not!

[I am missing an interview from this hour, which put the bargaining perspective into play. My point hinges on the revised funding of the war. It is in the hands of congress and the military is not in a position to include an out. At at least as interpreted by the missing link**. It is not the duty of the military to suggest an alternative* to addressing the issues in Afganistan, it is that of congress to suggest an alternative if they do not come through with what leadership has mind.]

* ironically or gramatically: they are addressing the issues in Afganistan
** still uncertain about missing link; maybe it was earlier.

Senator Cantwell,
on Finance Committee Baucus Bill:
"I wouldn't vote for a bill that doesn't have Medicare reform and the public option,"

I would say that what comes out of committee will still be only one of what?

Republicans* are now officially at the table. And if it gets out of committee they will be on the floor for an up or down fight, amendment or reconciliation. **

* ironically their only plan other than the 160 amendments in the House bills and weeks of fighting the public option, that is what they have to show for bipartisanship. A choice between an option or no option.

Obama to Wall Street

My thoughts yesterday* turned to last Wednesday's glare that was given by Obama to Joe Wilson. That look was prevalent in what I saw of his remembering one year ago. It seemed that it was more in the nature of "you are with us" or "you are against us".

I have yet to read** blogs or posts in regards to this issue, but it is the next big lift:
Keep it Obama

What does that mean?
Hope that someone will be at the table, even if we have to take their ideas without them.

I reiterate, I have yet to more than glance at the these jabs, but I draw my own metaphors.

* remembering that one year ago Bush was president.

Remembering September 11th, 2001

It is not that I did not remember, but I chose to go about my day and just remember the victims. It should not be a time to take personal or political gain by honoring anything but the loss. It should not take a tragedy for us to care about others. Or remembering it to have a day of service.

I do remember the President saying(something of the sort) that terrorists win if we change,
and the Mayor of New York(at the time) being glad or thanking God, Bush was president.

(This was held in abeyance and only slightly adjusted(9-15-09) for flow and link added.)

Unembedding the Victim Hood

Air America's editorial or smoke and mirrors misses(scratch that) covers Un Herd of Change, which I just updated and unembed Ourfuture.org which had two reports highlighting the changes;

CNN and MyDD report 14 to 20 point leaps in approval(Obama on health care reform) respectively. Now is that unprecedented change?

The Victim Hood: Palin on rescuing the media, is now joined by Rep. Joe Wilson. Turn the other cheek becomes pass the other buck.

Un Herd of Change

The Heard not the herd.
The unheard-of change.*
Mobilizing progressives and un-precedented change?

The president walked a line that is hard to parse but the two perspectives above might metric it. Inspiring the left and moving the moderates, I don't know if there is a precedence for a 14 to 20 per cent change in polls overnight. Of course there is precedence for news to leap on hypotheticals or rhetoricals anyway. The line was not exactly a leash but in line with our dog metaphor, the feat before us, and should tug at the character of our wagging or blue dogs. This is not our father's hush puppy or soul food.

[lines drawn]

[* Update 9-11-09: Unembedding the Victim Hood pulls the polls (CNN and MyDD) from the herd.]

The President's Plan

A test of our character.

Item one. Item two.

TheNextRight

or the Irony Deficient?

Are you part of The Next Right?
or a "concentration camper"

These are both serious links, although the first is maybe more your cup of tea, if not a partier, while the latter is an exchange between a rare reasonable righty and Rachel Maddow.

Now my take:
The term "concentration camper" was Rachel's regarding the "tin-foil right", but an old game show tune comes to mind. I don't know if it was for the show "Concentration" but it was a little tune that played while the contestants were thinking and the clock ticking. But with the abandonment of the Right by moderates and independents, they are simply left as concentrated radicals and the deluded. Meanwhile the left is diluted by the admixture, or influx to the solution.
BTW: there are of course "tin-foil lefties"

What President Obama should say tomorrow.

He should warn the people not to fall for the "wag the dog" media rather than * worry about the "Blue Dog Democrats".
Ok, this might be none too clear. But he should not spell out a veto threat or call for Democrats to be good soldiers.

[9-9-09: What he said to American Students.]

Bring it on!

Majority Vote!
[I have four comments in draft(two noted *) but this is what is needed.]
[On the other hand...]
[and counting fingers and toes] I did not want run with three hands or a missing finger.]

[9-4-09: As opposed to last week**, I now have a post-post thought on changing the heading. This one should be called: Winding Up / Cracking Down And this really takes the cake. But since some want to have their cake and eat it too, maybe they know what is good for them. These victims and perpetrators of authoritarianism (I formally coined The Victim Hood) just might want and need what they fear. A good cracking down, starting with the media. Freedom of speech is not freedom to buy air time or digital or freedom not to sell it except for lies and hate.]
